The house dust mite produces 200 times its body weight in excrement during its lifespan. This
excrement at first adheres to the fibres in the fabric as small mucus coated balls. These decompose
into a fine powder like dust containing allergen called GUANINE, which is known to cause allergic
reactions in humans.
As is the case with many things in life, it is only when things reach high concentration, that they
become dangerous. With as many as one million dust mites in a mattress the concentration of GUANINE
containing mite excrement is extremely high and this is where the danger, which should not be

the major cause of asthma attacks, inflammation of the skin, reddening of the eyes, coughing and
inflammation of the mucous membrane, particularly in the nose. The real risk though lies in the fact,
